Wow! What a day 1! The day began with opening ceremonies at the mall. This was attended by over 100 people as all our sponsors were thanked and everyone had the pleasure of meeting the greatest squash player of all time, Jahangir Khan.

With the ceremony over, it was time to move on to the matches and so many good matches and not enough space to describe them all. Top seeded Salah Eltorgman looks in good form and easily moved into the quarterfinals. Local favourite David Mill looked very solid in his matches and is into the quarterfinals without dropping a game. All the other seeds moved through easily.
However, the highlight match of the day was fan-favourite Amin Khan going up against Nicolas Serna. I don’t think the match was ever separated by more than 3 points. Of course, this match was going 5. In the 5th game both players seemed to tire and struggled to get out of each other’s way. Unfortunately for the referee (who did a great job!), the match came down to a tough stroke call, with Amin taking it.

Besides the great play, we may have found 2 new squash commentators in Jagroop Bhangoo and Usman Khan who clearly had a lot of fun commentating this match.

In the women’s draw, all the favourites moved on with no upsets in the draw.
Along with the tournament, we also have a camp running by Zarak Khan and the visiting squash pros. Today, the camp was joined by Mazem Hesham (WR#8) and together they put on a great day for our juniors. Thank you gentleman!
